Knotless Suturing With Polypropylene (Prolene) Suture

Building upon an idea he had after seeing a cataract surgeon use a thermal cautery to create a flange at the end of a polypropylene haptic, Dr. Richard Allen demonstrates his own knotless technique for skin suturing. Either a high- or low-temperature cautery can be used to melt the suture; the molten polypropylene is then flattened with a needle holder to keep it in position during the suturing process.
